Day 1043. Last night Emmy was waking up crying in pain a few times. They were up early, around 7:30 we got up as well. Emmy had already had two squeezies and wanted nothing else. Tammy tried to eat oatmeal with milk, but only drank the milk. Sammy didn't really want to eat either. After breakfast we dressed them and left the house just after 9 am.
It was Tammy's fourth day of not eating because of the blister on her tongue, and Emmy's second. Sammy was also behaving like he was sick and did not want to eat. And so the five of us crossed town to go see their pediatrician. It's a long trip to our old neighborhood, especially with the two subways not connecting any more, and we got there at 10 am. The line was so long that people were waiting on the sidewalk. I checked in with them and got a number, and so we sat down in the waiting room. I expected for us to wait a long time, but surprisingly that was not the case. Suddenly our names were called, and we went into one of the rooms.
We had to take their shoes and shirts off. Emmy was already crying because of it. Then they got weighed, and a few minutes later one of the doctors came in. He looked at their tongues, and showed me that Sammy also had a blister, his being under the tongue. Tammy's is on the left side, and Emmy's on the right side of the tongue. Later I saw that Emmy also has a blister on the inside of his lip. The doctor said the name of the virus causing this and showed me a few little dots they were having elsewhere on their bodies that were caused by the same virus. He also said that Tammy had a fungus in her mouth. He gave me a prescription for them, and that was it. By the way, Sammy was also crying at some point. We dressed them again, picked up the prescription, and left. It was only 10:45. We stopped by the pharmacy, then took the tram and the subway and were home an hour later.
I put the numbing cream on their tongues right away, but it's a little tricky. He said to wait 15 minutes, and then they would be able to eat, but that was not the case. I warmed up yesterday's leftovers, expecting them to eat everything on their plates, but courageous Emmy who believed me started crying right away. Tammy didn't even try, and Sammy was not happy either. The cream had not worked. They all had icecream instead, which is nice and cold and perfect to eat.
I cleaned them up and dressed them and took them downstairs. They wanted the piano, and so I got it out. Then I had to leave them as I still had a dentist's appointment, and it was at 2 pm already. I was very tired, but I needed to leave just after 1 pm.
I took the train, then the subway and a bus and got to the dentist's office on time. I was happy to see an empty waiting room. I was extremely tired. I sat down and was called to the x-ray room just moments later. Then I was told to go straight to one of the treatment rooms. This was my fifth appointment there in just a few weeks. He had finished the root canal last time, but said I needed a check-up, as he already saw something that was wrong. That was today. He fixed a filling I had lost, and discovered that I had another dead tooth that needed a root canal. So I have another 4 appointments ahead in the weeks to come! Just great! The good thing was that I got to walk out of there just about 20 minutes after I had arrived.
Once again I took the bus, then the subway, and then the train to go home, where I arrived at 3:15. I tried to unlock the door, but it didn't work. Randy had left his key in the lock on the inside, and so I had to ring the doorbell. I was too tired to even think that they might all be asleep, which was the case. I woke them up with the doorbell. Randy told me that Amazon had also rung the doorbell and woken them up one time before. This time they were awake for good. Emmy just wanted me to hold him, and Sammy wanted Daddy who wasn't available yet, which made him cry. Tammy was happy with me sitting closeby with Emmy. I told them I needed to work, but they didn't want to hear that. I finally just walked downstairs with all three of them. Sammy sat down by the piano again, and I sat down with Emmy on my chest. After a few minutes I was able to get up and leave them, and Randy took my place.
It was already late, and I had not done any work all day. I had an email that I was accepted by an online tutoring platform having had a group interview on Friday and was given an online tutorial I needed to do before my next training tomorrow. I ended up doing that which took me all the way until 6 pm. I was done just as Randy came upstairs with the kids. Dinner time is at 6:30 now, so they were coming up early. Given their situation I was not gonna get a full meal ready. I thought that they could eat a soup and cut up watermelon into small pieces. And I put the cream on their tongues to numb the pain, hoping it would work this time, but it didn't. Emmy tried but was in pain, while Tammy even refused to try. Sammy tried too. They did all eat some salami without any problems, surprisingly, and Sammy had some watermelon. Then they all had icecream again. So no eating in the bathtub today. Instead they were just having fun, and so they got out a little quicker than usual. I put Sammy's new braces on for the fifth day in a row, and now it's midnight and he's still wearing them, which is the longest he's done so far. By 7:45 they were all in bed. I sat down by them, and after a while, I got my computer to make good use of the time. At 8:30 I asked Randy to take my place, and I was shocked, when no child protested, even though they were still awake. That's unheard of! I got something to eat, ate, and then returned to work. Emmy has woken and gotten up a few times, and every time I've put him back to bed and sat down in the chair by his bed. Tammy came one time, and I took her back to bed, and Sammy's cried a few times, but never for long. I'm exhausted and need to go to bed.
