7 years 1 month 16 days

Day 2603. This was week 5 of school. Two more weeks, then they have one week off. On Friday, Tammy and Emmy did not have classes as they went on a field trip with school. It had rained a little during the night so they had to take mud pants with them and put rainboots on. Emmy had a fit because he didn't want to wear either. It looked like they were not going to school, and they did miss the 7:12 am bus. Finally we were able to get Emmy out the door. He had the rainboots on and the mudpants in his backpack, just in case. It then turned out that everything was dry so they were able to switch to their regular shoes.

I got up at 9:15 am as I had a 10 am student. I taught until 11 am, then I had another student until noon. Randy left just before noon to go pick up Tammy and Emmy, while I picked up Sammy at 12:30 pm. Back home at 1 pm, I sat down to eat lunch. At 1:30 pm, Randy returned home with the kids, and then Grandma also arrived. We  hadn't seen her since right after our return from the USA, so it was great to see her. We went downstairs where the kids had fun with her for two hours, and as I did not have any students, I also got to spend those two hours with her. The time flew by way too quickly. At 3:30 pm she left, and Randy left with Emmy to take him to his breakdance class.

They took the train and the subway, and Emmy got to stay from 4 to 6 pm as it was his first time back. He got to try both classes, the beginners' class first and then the one for those who are advanced so he could find out which class was a better fit. He said he wanted to go to the advanced class.

Tammy, Sammy and I stayed home. I taught from 6 to 7 pm, but first I made their sandwiches and cut up their fruit for them. Randy and Emmy got home before I was done teaching. After I was done, I did piano practice with them, then it was bathtub time. I prayed for them, then I sat down to teach at 8 pm. Tammy and Emmy both fell asleep in our bed right next to me. After I was done teaching at 9 pm, I took them to their beds, made my salad, and sat down to eat before going back to work.

Saturday

It was not a typical Saturday. I got up at 9:15 and left the house at 9:45 am with Tammy. We rode the subway, then the bus and walked to Saint Peter's church where we went to the basement for Tammy's classical choir practice. As for Randy and the boys, they left the house before 10:30 am and rode two subways, then walked to the sports center where Emmy had his first soccer competition since joining the club that he is a part of now. Everything was wet on the ground, and there were no benches, and Sammy was not happy. It was way too boring for him. So Randy called me - while Tammy's practice was going on - and told me they were leaving. Randy then went to McDonald's with Sammy to have lunch, then went to the playground with him and then took him to his music class at 1:30 pm that he loves so much.

Tammy's practice ended at 11:30 am, then we walked in the direction of the subway. But first we went to McDonald's to pick up food for Tammy, Emmy and myself. We got on the subway with the bag, and Tammy started eating. After we got off, we made our way to the sports center. It was a huge place, and it took us a while, but we finally found Emmy who was playing a game. In fact, they had one game after another for two hours. However, the players only got to play half the game, as they were switched out for the second half, as there were more kids than players needed. And so Emmy got to watch from the sidelines as well, as did I. Tammy and I finished eating, but Emmy was not interested in eating until it was all over at 1:30 pm.

Tammy and I sat down on the ground, at least when Emmy was not playing, and then she made friends with a little girl who she ended up playing with for the rest of our time there. As for Emmy, he had scored 7 goals in the course of the 2 hours, and their team won some games and lost others and tied some as well.

After all the games had been played, all the teams gathered and some words were spoken. Each team received a trophy that the coaches took, then it was all over. There were not first, second or third places. We were told they don't do that with the under 10-year-olds.

The three of us walked back to the subway. Emmy's feet were hurting. We rode two subways and were home by 2 pm. I was extremely tired and lay down right away to take a nap. Randy and Sammy returned home at 3 pm. Everybody kept waking me up with the noise they were making. At 4 pm my alarm went off, and I forced myself up. I went to the kitchen to make their sandwiches and cut up their fruit. Then I taught two hours in a row, from 5 to 7 pm. I was glad when I was done.

We then went downstairs for piano practice, back upstairs it was bathtub time. After that, we read a story, I prayed for them, and they went to bed. I was glad not to have to teach at 8 pm. I went to the kitchen to make myself something to eat, sat down to eat, and later went back to work.

Sunday

I really wanted to sleep in this morning but as always, the noise they were making kept waking me up. At some point they went downstairs and had some fun there but they did come back upstairs. At 11 am I got up, and I soon went to the kitchen to start cooking lunch. We ate, then we got ready to leave the house which we did at 1:30 pm.

We rode two subways then we took a bus for a few stops, then we walked to the Danube tower. We got there after 2 pm, and our tickets were for 2:20 pm. We had done a different VR experience before so we knew what to expect and had high expectations. This one had been really hyped as special, with a waiting list just to buy tickets, and there were really a lot of people there. So many that they told us that we'd have to wait until they let us in. The kids were playing with the coin-minting machines at the entrance.

At 2:20 pm they let us in, and I went to the computer to register us one by one to form one group. Then we sat down and waited to be called up. They then gave us our VR glasses. We walked into the room, put them on, and off we went. It was a 45-minute experience going into space, finding out about stars and telescopes. It was not fun or entertaining like the other one but purely educational, and not suitable for 7-year-olds. Tammy and Emmy were bored, and Sammy started crying and took his headset off. Randy and Sammy had to leave before it was over. The rest of us finished the show, and I took a picture of the room before leaving.

The kids still wanted to go to the playground before going home, so we made our way there. They have a huge playground with lots of stuff there, and it was really crowded. We spent quite some time there, and the kids had lots of fun. Then we continued walking to the subway, and rode two subways home.

By 5 pm we were back home, and I went straight to the kitchen to make their sandwiches and cut up their fruit. I gave it to them, then made my salad. By the time I was done, the kids were ready to go downstairs for piano practice which we did. Back upstairs, it was bathtub time. After that, the kids and I did some stuff on the computer they had asked for, then I prayed for them, and they went to bed. I then went to get my salad and sat down to eat. Later I went back to work. Now it's after 1 am, and I still need to take care of the dishes before going to bed.
